been seeing a lot of ID threads lately, thought it might be a good idea to "revive" the quiz;)

guess the gar id, and state how you came to that conclusion. it doesn't matter if you're right or wrong, what's important is that we all learn from this.

ps: more experienced guys, leave the iding out of your responses for a bit, but do state traits to look out for to successfully ID the fish:)

i with i had more species to make this game more interesting. solomon, plat & conner i need help with pics of more species!!

gar 1

gar 2

group shot

bonus: there's something wrong with one of the fish in this pic, can anyone guess what it is?

pic 4

you can find more pics HERE

Ow, feels like I'm back at school and you're checking if we payed any attention.
So, it'll be guessing, though i was tempted to go through your older posts.
Anyways,
1: small gator gar???
2: Florida gar
3: all of the above plus the yellow/brownish fat dude : cuban gar
4: the cuban and florida with strange lil' spots (i don't dare to say spotted, for that is usually the wrong answer.lol)

Bonus question: broken neck/back, old injury.

Hope a at least have 1 correct.....lol

just wanted to throw in the comments that these are some cool pics! the first shot, although somewhat underexposed, is really cool to me and probably my favorite of the bunch. nice job xander.

i'll have some pics ready to go for upcoming rounds of the quiz--

Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

1. Alligator gar- There's something about their eyes... Not to mention the snout.
2. Spotted gar- The snout is too short to be a Florida
3. Vertebrae injury just behind the skull
4. Cuban ad Spotted- No other gar but Cubans have that color
5. Cuban- Color is a dead giveaway

**spotteds generally have a longer snout than Florida gars; by the logic you have stated in question #2 it should not be an option if the snout is too short to be a Florida gar.

that's true, it's a good one...i think a good clue is that these are xander's fish and xander's tank :)
