Hey, I was thinking about getting a new live plants for my 20G tank so my Neon Tetras have some. I was wondering can you just put in live plants and not have to do anything special to them the fish or the tank? Thanks.

What kind of ligths are you using? That will tell you what kind of plants you can get.

.
Java fern and java moss, they're hardy and thrive in low light conditions.

100W Lights

100 watts on a 20G tank is plenty of light, even using the old watts-per-gallon rule . . . spectrum counts too; plants do best in light that is 5500K to 10,000K

what is your substrate (gravel)? if you have basic pea-size gravel or smaller, then that is a decent start . . . if you have sand, that is not necessarily great for plants, but can work . . . in either case, you might want to mix in some laterite or use root-tabs if you want rooted plants
