Just picked on up today. Anyone else own one that could tell me about them? I read it is seldom they get bigger than 12"? Is this true? Any infor would be appreciated.

if its a halfbeak it most likely wont get over 4". by the way, its not a real gar.

if its a halfbeak its pretty much like most community fish but like meatier food. it could also possibly a hujeta gar which would get aprox. 10"

Here is a picture of him. I'm pretty sure he is a half beak. The guy we bought him from knows his stuff.

well your guy doesn't know his stuff well enough. that is not a half-beak, that's a hujeta gar, more specifically a pike-characin. look up either of those types of fishes and you'll come up with the appropriate info. they are members of the group Ctenoluciidae.--
