ok so i got a RTC in a 60 gal tank, (yea i know about RTC's They get huge) thats not my issue.
he's outgrown his 60 gal grow tank, and ill be upgrading him to A 200 GAL here shortly until i begin my build which will be his permenant spot.

anyways to the point,
i need to know how much filtration/turn over will be required (even if i through a couple others in there that he wont eat like i decent sized arrowana).

the fish is approximately 1 yr old and about 10-13 inches long.

so far i have:
-2 Aqua-Tech HOB filters
380 GPH each (760 GPH together)

-1 odyssea EX350 Delux Powerhead
350 GPH

-and im going to buy a DOLPHIN DP2000
which is said to have 2000gph output.

so all together there will be a 3,110 GPH output.

will this be enough filtration to house a couple monsters? or do i need to crank it up a few notches?

if so what would your opinion be on a desirable turnover rate?

i would say given my rtc exp that is not as much about how much u flow as to how well it filters it

I have a RTC about the same size in my 90 along with a marble sleeper goby.

All I have on the tank is 2 Aquaclear 110s and the water is crystal clear all the time. They are rated at 500 gph, but let's go conservative and say they are 270 gph. Turnover is 6x per hour which isn't bad at all.

Now, let's look at the big boys. JohnPTC told me he runs about 800 gpm on filters and 60 gpm on circulation on House of Sam 10000 gallon monster tank.

48000 gph of filtration flow on 10000 gallons 4.8x per hour turnover
plus 4800 gph or .48 x per hour circulation turnover.

5.28 x per hour which is less than my conservative estimate on my 90

I respect John highly and can say that if 5-6x per hour is good enough for him then it's good enough for anyone.

I run 2 Quiet One 4000s on my 210 which at about 6' of head run around 600 gph, so 1200 total. Once again 5.7 x per hour.

The Dolphin DP2000 is rated 1500 gph at 12' head, so figure you're going to get about 1800 with 6' of head.

The Dolphin uses 200 watts where the Quiet Ones use 48 watts. Dolphin $150 Quiet One $66.

You could get 3 Quiet Ones for not much more than the Dolphin, uses 25+% less electricity and have builtin back up pumps.

This is just an example. I'm not trying to sell you on Quiet Ones or deter you from buying the Dolphin. Just food for thought.

Yes, you should be fine.

I'd spend money on Aquaclear 110s rather than a canister whenever you decide to buy additional filters. Easy maintenance, lifetime guarantee on construction (not moving parts), high flow rate, and versatile. You can stick just about any kind of media you want in them. I use the sponge that comes with them and a Poly-filter.

And no you can't beat second hand Dolphin for $50!!! What a deal!

Really doesn't depend on time as they'll grow based on how much you feed them. Mine has grown at least 3-5" in the past 1.5 months since my friend gave him to me. He hates Massivore. Guess he's spoiled for the live nightcrawlers and market shrimp that I feed him. He will eat earthworm and veggie sticks though. I don't like the way Massivore lingers in my house after feeding either. Anyone else experience that?

What dimensions is the 200 you're getting? My 210 is 7x2x2. He's going in there once I take out the fish he can swallow. Then he'll go to live in the 4300 once it's done.

Safe bet on when it's time to upgrade would be when he's as long as the tank is wide. In my case with the 210, when he gets to be 24 inches.
