I built a tank several years ago (20) and after a few years it began to leak and before it was noticed it was too far gone. Anyway, my stand isbuilt out of 2x4s and 2x6s, the tank is plywood but with an exterior frame. The tank measures 96Lx36Dx31H outside and 88Lx28.5Dx28.5H inside. I will be using 5/8s glass on the front and will be using Pond Coat to seal the tank. Here is the stand and tank so far:

I have also started working on the sump while the snow falls. The sump will also be sealed with Perma-Dri's Pont Coat. Water will enter through each end of the sump through filter socks, go through a section that will be left opened for future filter media, heaters, etc. Once past there, water will rise and fall through a filter plate and scrubbies. Water will return to the tank using a Quiet One 9000 pump that will be in the center of the pump. Here are picks of the sump so far. I could use some recommendations about where to put the water returns at. You can see the overflows already. I am planning on placing the returns in the end walls IF they will fit within the 2x4 wall. But if they dont fit there, where would you place them? I will post the sump design drawing in a few minutes, it's on a different laptop!

Very impressive! especially your sump for me that is. I have been thinking about a plywood sump box that can accept cheap Sterilite or Tupperware rectangular liners and yours looks much lighter then what I envisioned reinforced with 2x3" studs. Ill be watching this one, bravo!

Looks good. I'm planning an almost identical tank, with the stand also borrowed from mdstark!

My tank is probably going to be 96"x36"x24" though.

Great start, and I like your sump idea!
