Hi i started with my 1.000.000 gallon pond in my back yard just a few weeks ago and wanted to share the pics.

I live in Costa Rica so the weather is always nice.

I own a small tilapia farm and have some theads on breeding Gar in this forum as well.

I love big fish !!!!!!

Now i want to have some arapaimas. and a place to go diving as well.
So i decided to dig my own new pond.

the dig took only 51 hours of labour so the cost is'nt that high.

the water comes right out of the ground so no pumps or anything needed.

The water rose in the first few days about 10-15 inches every day.

we had a pump installed just to keep the work place dry for easier movement of the dirt.

Dirt was just spread out on the piece of land behind the pond.
I live on a hill and look down on the pond from my office.
this just for you all who work in concrete blocks. Ha Ha ha:ROFL:

Anyway its dry season and I dont expect the pond to fill up completely now .
But the waterlevel is still rising.

overall sizes. 131 feet long and 85 feet at the widest point

18 feet at the deepest point. 14 feet rest of pond.
the depth is to make sure ground water will fill it up.

looking to install a fountain just for water movement and oxigenation.

I have not put fish in yet.
I might start with some local fish for feeders.
and also add some of my own bred Gar.

I dont have the arapaimas yet but are trying to find some here.
No hurry I know i will get them someday.
they are not easy to find.

Any questions?????????

Wow.. that is amazing.. I would LOVE to be a fish in that pond!!!!!
If a mbu could handle it.. and if it's warm enough.. I would totally get a mbu in there!!

Thats one big pond but seeing how its a mud bottom your not gonna be able to see the fish very well.

I dont want to put too many fish in.
A friend of mine (no fish lover) build a pond like this and its pretty clear all the way to the bottom.
I hope mine will be too
