I have an 8 inch Alligator Gar in a 125 gallon tank and it moves around fine, has great color, eats fine but it has a round cyste like thing on its tail. it is pale orange reddish. it has had it for awhile even after i treated it in a quarantine tank with parasite meds and also bacterial/fungul. Im worried it may be something pretty bad.

also it is in with a RTC, green sunfish, and Tiger shovelnose cat

lymphocystis most likely. it's viral so hard to treat. just maintain excellent water quality and it will go away on it's own. bump up water changes to 50% per week (if not more) as this will help speed things along.

a pic would help confirm of course--

My Gator Gar had something like that for a WHILE on his back. It stayed just within 1 square scale so it never grew or anything. But when I would pet him I could feel it was a hard bump and was an orange/red color. He had for months and I figured as long as it didn't start growing it would be fine. Sure enough it started to slowly go away (frequent water changes) and now it's completly gone. Just like Sol said, keep up with the water changes but it may take up to a month or longer to go away if it's like what my boy had.
Hang in there....

Gar Power!!! :headbang2
