Sorry if this isn't right (i don't have a drip system) but wouldn't your gpd depend on your load? wouldn't you tune it to get the optimum water parameters for your own set up? an example would be to reduce nitrates.

Way overcrowded system I have which is 800 gallons with 13 mature rays and just about 400 gpd. Probably could cut back.

You are probably right, just wondering where to start at. I will adjust, as time goes by.. i am already noticing a difference

load is definately a factor. my tank is lightly stocked right now. im sure im changing too much water for the time being. 15% day. but the water is clear and nitrates are less then 5pmm all the time. going to be adding some more fish from my other tank tonight. im sure 50gals a day will be plenty for any load for my tank.

i have noticed that after my waterchanges, i usually do weekly of 80% or so, that day and the next my water is extremly clear and clean looking as the week progresses my tank starts looking dirty (slightly foggy) not as crystal clear as the day or 2 of the waterchange.. I noticed that yesterday my tank was still crystal clear and perfect, tested my water and nitrates were about 20ppm this was 2 days after a small waterchange Friday (when i installed the drip). i will check throughout the week to see if they increase or decrease.

Doing a weekly 80% you should only have to drip about 30 gpd to be over the WC Schedule. 48 should be more then enough. Did you tap into both warm and cold? I eliminated using 8 250 watt stealths in my pond by dripping warm water.

I'm at 225 per day on my pond, then usually crank it up on the weekends to flush after feeding till they refuse.
