Thanks for the info. Advice came a bit late, or should I say I came about this site a bit too late. Anyway, My father in law started breeding it, tough but fun... Now we have hundreds of them and we don't know what to do with them! I don't know what species they are exactly, but they're dark and very very fierce comes feeding time... Cheers

Hey incredibly great information. i see there is no feed back for a while but i have three different kinds of the beasts and i have to say that all the information is right on with what i have discovered on my own. the last one that i got was the original red tail and he was roughly four inches at the store then within the first month of making a home in my 180 he was close to six. they grow incredibly fast and i have even seen them eat fish the size of there head with out problem. once they do there usually full for days but not in all cases and if someone is keeping them in a tank with any smaller fish i caution you from it because even if there stuffed if a fish is simply lazing around the bottom of the tank and they think they have room they will eat it. lastly they need the larger the better for a pond. the specs that you listed are great for the hobbies t but lets just put that into perspective. if you have more then one plan on over six feet per fish for room making it so that one would need at least a 12x12x4 if planning to house two successfully and have plenty of room to swim i know because that is what im building now for the little guys. cant wait.

Love this thread, my RTCxTSN has been growing at an insane rate. He was 5 inches on May 7, yesterday he was just under 9.5 and it hasnt even been a full 4 weeks! I really want to get a RTC but I am worried that they are harder to take care of than my RTCxTSN, I hear they are sensitive to water, my nitrates usually pump up to 40ppm between each water change (Nitrite and Ammonia 0)
