I'm starting a new marine tank, have a protein skimmer and a wet/dry trickle filter, is it worthwhile to use a hang on filter like a Aquaclear 110 with the regular media inside, carbon, foam, ammonia remover in a saltwater tank?

I just meant the regular media that usually goes in an Aquaclear filter, I'm new to saltwater so I'm just gathering info from those in the know. Silly question i guess. So just fill the media chamber with ceramics and rubble rock?
I have an AC110 on my 60 gallon. Does the trick for me and that is all I have on there. This is a FOWLR (Fish only with live rock) not a reef tank though. My reef tank has nothing but an ATS (Algae turf scrubber).
