Hello. I have been doing some research. Is it possible to raised 100+ parrotfish for a year, giving them plenty of coral, and ending up with lots of sand? I am looking for a cheaper alternative to reef sand, without paying $1k/ton. Would this work? Thanks.

well parrot fish are a contributor to the Caribbeans white sand they eat the micro organisms living in the coral not the coral itself and then they get rid of the crushed coral. to get this to work I assume you would need live coral. but I dont know much about ocean fish

They are picking at the live coral and the algae growing there. The cost of the fish plus what they are eating would be thousands if not hundreds of thousands of times greater than just buying the sand.

How much sand are you in need of? If it's alot, skip the petstore and buy in bulk.

I tried to buy bulk, but I can't seem to find any under $850/ton. I am looking to price 11 cubic yards, or more.
