The pattern is not that helpful for ID as the pattern can vary alot between individuals. In general if you are wondering if you have a florida or a spotted it is almost guaranteed to be a florida. True spoted gars are very rare in the hobby.

yup, this is generally correct. unless you are within the range of wild spotted gars and catching your own or receive it with verified info/source (NOT an LFS) then 99.9999% of the time it's a FLG (once you narrow it down to the two species).--
