I've noticed some fish look a lot alike. Please list some freshwater fish that you think look like saltwater fish.

a lot of african cichlids look like saltwater fish. i remember walking into an LFS that had a tanganyikan display tank and there was a customer explaining to his daughter that it was a saltwater tank (if only he knew) :ROFL:

I know one salt water fish that always get stuck in fresh water and waste away and die alot.......... sailfin molly.

two more, dragon goby, (brackish), and freshwater moray eels (most are brackish, one species i know is totally fresh from Australia).

without mentioning brackish water species, I would say datnoids do have that saltwater look to them, superficially similar to snappers.

I wouldn't go with the FW morays, as they are not true FW fish

Africans, some of the more exotic knife fish and certain fresh water rays. I feel that for color you want african cichlids for shape look to asian and south america. I mean sturgeon always had a saltwater look to me with their scales.
