I've used Potassium Permanganate to dip new plants will kill the snails/algae that come with most orders. It's safer than bleach, and where as bleach can kill plants in a hurry, they stand a better chance using this stuff. Here's a link: http://www.aquariaplants.com/plantdipsbaths.htm I available in most hardware stores, but I think shipping it has been banned for some reason or another (someone mentioned 9/11.)
