Hello,

I'm from Tahiti (French Polynesia) and will buy my 1st arowana soon so I would like to ask for some help please :) (sorry if my english isn't that good).

I've a 5000gal 17ft x 10ft x 4ft outdoor tank/pond with currently 9x 5" barbs (6 red eyes albinos, 3 silvers), 3x 7" oscars (2 albinos, 1 tiger), 2x 5" archers, 1x 6" knifefish and a lot of tiny fishes for the knifefish to feed on (althought all others don't mind eating some too). It's not finished yet, it'll be totally closed to prevent any fish jumping out.

There're only 2 LFS here and just one sell arowanas "once" a year as he only order a batch for november.

They all come from DFI, this year he got 6 RTG, 6 AA emerald xb, 6 AA sapphire ghxb and a few more that are way out of my budget.

The RTGs are 4" so way too small to survive and I'm willing to get a xb anyway.
All emerald and sapphire are around 9" with no WTT at the LFS.

Only 1 AA emerald xb is showed right now, the other 5 aren't feeling well enough yet.
He's alone in the tank (very bright btw), cool and not scared at all from people :

All 6 AA sapphire ghxb are in the same tank and the water isn't really clear.

There's one that caught my eye since day 1 :

Turns out he's the king out of the 6, I've spent about 30-45mins after work everyday for the past week looking at them and saw the evolution. On day 1 they were all scattered in the tank, now 5 are clustered in the top right corner while this one swim all around.

I'm really thinking of picking him, price isn't a matter as they're all set at the same, the emerald being just a bit cheaper.
What do you think ? I'm not looking for the "best" really, I just got a feeling for this one but would like him to have no defect if possible, so any advice is welcome ;)

Here's a 2y old sapphire :

if money isn't matter, pick the one you like! but you need to do a lot of researches on keeping them!

If money isn't the issue and since price not much difference just go for the alpha sapphire ghxb since u like it! Or u may want to consider taking all 6 RTGs... u can put them in a grow out tank until your pond is ready with proper cover, and btw loved your outdoor tank, it'll be a super mansion for one aro.

Tx for the comments everyone.

For the arowana selection I'm 99% sure I'll go with the one I got a crush on, I wouldn't get it until 1 month though so it'll leave me some time to observe it more.
The LFS owner is really friendly and willing to hold it for me til January.

As for the 6 RTGs, I don't have the budget to get them all + a growing tank big enough for them, and I've 2 young giant gouramis (10") in a friend's pond that I'll add last as they're a bit bossy. I fear it would end overcrowded with too many big fishes as I enjoy seeing them swim in open space.

Btw the water isn't really clear as I didn't start the tank with an UV filter, after 1 week it turned from clear blue to thick green so I had no choice but to add one. It's in the process of clearing ;), been running for almost 2 months now, all parameters are fine.

Here're a few more pics as requested.

The blue water at start with some small fishes having fun while no big ones were in.

The 3 oscars taking a tour in the tank after they were added :

A friend's arowana (red banjar) that lasted 2 days, he knocked off one of the fence and ended in the garden :( ... lesson learned and now all fences are over secured.

My favorite moment of the day, when the sun rise over the house and start hitting the tank, all fishes stand in the light pillar to "warm up" ...

The good thing about outdoor tank is the natural sunlight, its really good for the fish coloration.... great set up and congrats!!!
