i've heard that circle hooks set themselves, is this true? and do kahle hooks set themselves as well?

Circle hooks set them selfs, that's why it's good for bait sliding.

Kahle hooks can also set themselves but not as consistently as circles.

Octopus circles are the way to go for soaking bait. i use 8/0 Octopus circles for surf shark fishing, 9/10 times they set them selves on the initial run and 100% lip hooked.

No leader, a leader to me is the weakest link between you and the fish. I have had many leaders break in different places from each different vendor, I no longer use them. Its just hook, bead, sinker and line tied to an extra heavy musky rod and abu
