3yrs and finally 300G full

This was a winter project over last three years to see, an learn about building and running such a large tank setup.

It is nice to get water in it and see it all flow in and out, pump and filter seem to be working 100 % and really impressed
with that big surface skimmer its working very well.

where did you get the fittings that go through the plywood? i've been looking for something long enough to go through it all seems like standard size bulkheads dont have enough thread

used 1 1/2 size which only allows half threads to be inside nut. But you only tighten it down 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Which for me was 1/4 by hand and another 1/4 with wrench which made it very tight. Each Thread is about 1/16 wide so very strong, and nut moves fair distance in short period of turning, its not a fine thread.

To have majority to full set of threads outside tank I would say would have to have the 2" size bulkhead

Then for extra safety I put LR around inside over foam washer (foam washer is like 1/4" thick and it compressed to about 1/8 when tightened down) this filled area between tank wall and bulkhead flange with LR, as I will never be taking it apart. In hind site could probably eliminate the washer (since LR coated around its edges anyway) or get a thinner one which would give a full set of threads on outside tank wall. On outside wall I made a thin plastic washer cut out of top of Plastic Margarine container and put between tank and nut, so that nut would turn easy on LR surface to tighten or loosen it. I drilled bulkhead holes after tank was all coated with LR.

I'm glad went with the bulkheads, originally was just going to pump water over side of tank, but this was a lot cleaner and simpler to plumb.
