I'm currently running 65Watts of T5 lighting on my 180 gallon and it looks fairly terrible, id love to get some of these cheap LED Floodlights but just seem to be having a problem with all of these 'warm whites' etc, I read on another thread for aquariums and somebody said that the colour is best at 6000k+. Having said that, will these be suitable for my aquarium and how many watts will I need to get it really nice and bright?

"Day White" = 6000-6500K - is that good or bad?

"Cool White" 6000K

Does anybody have any experience with other LED's that have been good?

Need to keep the price low; ) ;)

I bought a set of 2 10W of those types. I wired them up when I got them and ran both for about 10-12 hours with no problems. set them aside for about 3 weeks and while one still works, the other warms up in about 15 minutes and starts to flash off then back on in a second about every 45 seconds.
:irked:
they weren't bright enough anyway so I bought 3 50W of that type and ran them for about 36 hours with no problems.
I get my tank in 4-6 weeks, I'l going to be mightily ticked if any of these flash. or die.

I'm using 1 50w and 2 20w LED flood lights for my big tank and for each of my 55 gallon tanks I'm using 2 10w's. I have been running them for about 4 months and I haven't had any trouble. If you want it bright for a 180 gallon tank I would use 2 or 3 20w lights or the equivalent wattage in 10 watts. Here is a link to a gallery I made showing several different pictures of different LED Flood Lights Watts by them selves.

if you're concern about the colors. why not stick with your old T5 and swap out the bulbs. get a white and a pink bulb. that combination brings out the colors of the fish. LED washes out the fish colors. only thing i like about led are the shimmering effects and saves you energy. kinda makes me want to switch back to T5's and get some geisemann bulbs white and pink.

I am in process of setting up led lighting for my 125. I have the right side lit with one 20w cool 6000k flood and one 10w RGB led with remote, and the center and left sides with two t8 bulbs for comparison. I have three more 20W led and two more 10W RGB on the way to cover the center and left sides.

I use LED spotlights in clamp lamps as supplemental lighting on my tanks. The only bulbs I got were daylight 5000 kelvin bulbs which don't look very nice IMO. I'd much rather have something in the 6-8000 kelvin range but I couldn't find any locally.

The bulbs I had had lenses on them that gave them a tight spot beam that was also diffuse. I took the lens off and just let the LED be reflected by the clamp lamp. This gave an INFINITELY better shimmer effect.

Moved to setup and filtration.
