Yes you are the owner of a Gator gar. They are unique fish to sat the least. They eat just about everything ,in the tank that swims and fits in there mouth. I have one that is over a foot long now. I got him when he was four inches long. I have had him for less than six months. They are great fish if you like big aggressive fish.

I wouldn't trust that gar with tankmates you aren't willing to lose. I have personally found younger/smaller gator gars to be more likely to bite/nip/attack tankmates.

Also just want to comment on pricing because you seem to be a little off. 3-4" gators are usually $30 - 40 locally. 6 - 8"ers $60 - 80 retail. In the past I've seen as cheap as $15.99 for a 6" gator. Anything over a foot was someone elses problem fish and that is reflected in the price. 12 - 24"ers can usually be picked up for $40 or less, slightly higher for retail.
