Whats their cold tolerance like? Can they survive outside during the winter in water the freezes over? I have read that they can on the internet but not sure if its true or not. Anyone think they could survive out doors in a pond type setup in Nova Scotia (we are climate hardiness zone 5-6)?

As long as the water doesn't freeze solid and their is an open air hole in the ice, the fish will survive outdoors. Be aware that they get quite large as adults.

I believe Wes has a big one in his 750
I'll have to take a look....I would like to have one with my dats,I think that would look nice, but when they are availible around here they are too small for me to want to bother with.

15" Hifin. Photo taken yesterday. Outside pond in San Diego. They are constant grazers. Need lot of algae. Hard in tanks with other fish because they eat so slow. You may have to hand fed.
