Small gar question

Bought some baby gar. I have witnessed the LNG eat, but not the CBG. He looks alert and healthy. Staying full looking, but not actively eating when I watch. He definitely perks up once I throw bloodworms in there and all the small guppies start moving around. But when I am near the tank, he gets shy and stays in the plants. Any thoUghts? I have mollies and guppies breeding in the tank so I'm sure there is a steady supply of fry or him
