My LFS has some gars marked as spotted, but I'm not sure they really are spotted. Most spotted here are actually florida.

The left one in the top image and the top one in the bottom image are marked as floridas, but I'm pretty sure the differences in looks are due to the size differences.

As I thought. Is it possible to see any difference between florida and spotted at any size?

-i agree in that they are all FLG. in terms of visible differences, there are some nuanced characteristics that one can look for, but they never hold up all the time and can vary from one population to another...so the short answer is no. having locality information is your best bet. there are some internal examinations that can be done, but these aren't as feasible with young/small fish. again, going by geography, the fish here are most likely FLG. SPG are seldom seen in the hobby anywhere--
