Black banded bamboo egg
Lfs gave me this for free
def. Excited. Ive had a 197 acrylic cycling for a month now empty in anticipation of a shark. Any special care needed for the egg? And are peppermint shrimp and bumblebee snails bad for the egg. I have the egg in a fully cycled 20 long. Should i let him hatch in the smaller cycled tank or put him in the empty 197 and wait it out. Thanks.

when transfering the egg from tank to tank....make sure no air gets trap'd in it!
he'll be fine in the 20 long til hatch.....he should pop out of the egg at 6-8" and take up to 7 days to start eating......
once you have him eating nicely scoop a bucket of water from the 20 with him in it and jsut do a drip from the 200....

Thanks flagtail...i read about not letting the egg touch air and was sure to keep it submerged when i placed it in the tank. Threw my first tester damsels in the 197 so everything should b underway.

On 3 different occasions I hatched the sharks out fairly easy.....don't know how long they had been in the egg.....2 of the times...the egg was falling apart and the little guys still refused to come out...LOL
They all seem'd to wait a week to eat.....6-7 days....then they eagerly took market shrimp......darting around the second the shrimp hit the water...
Sounds like you've done your homework....
Enjoy!

Looks like a good start. I'd make sure it's eating very well in the 20 before moving it to the bigger tank. A small shark in a big tank can be a pain to feed. I'd also suggest getting the egg off the bottom. Use a veggie clip or some string to suspend it in the water column a bit.

Thanks zoodiver! i really appreciate you taking time to give ur knowledge...i was worried the egg was a problem on the ground like that. I'll def. Take care of it. Is it safe to just carefully tie some fishing line around it or worth the $5 for a veggi clip? Also any good place on the egg for the clip. I'm not gonna lie i was afraid to crack it open. Kinda y i just left it there like that.

Fishing line will work just fine. Push it through one of the flat spots on the end and tie it up a bit. I did it all the time when I was breeding various bamboo and catsharks. Not sure I have a pic of it though... or I'd post one for you.
