So I had a florida gar in my tank for a good while then a few days ago I purchased a 2nd one, now the two is them are side by side about 80% of the time, they swim around with each other and seem to be best buddies, are they normally this much of a schooling fish or is this a unique behavior? Will they continue doing this? It isn't a problem, I have just never had multiple gars before

Its normal and what kind of native catfish do you have?
I have

4 Bluegill sunnys
2 Green Sunnys
1 Pumpkinseed sunny
2 Largemouth Bass
1 Crayfish
1 Painted turtle
1 Black Crappie
1 Channel Catfish
3 Bullhead catfish

I think that is everybody, there is a pleco in there but that isn't native, the florida gars aren't native either, we have longnosed gars up here, but close enough huh

That's an awsome stock how's your channel cat comming I'm planning on getting one soon and I love my florida gar. Lol
The channel cat is a very nice fish, its a big fish but pretty friendly and kind of skittish actually. At least that has been my experience, very fun fish though, stays at the bottom, I'd recommend getting one
