I picked up the dark gar from my LFS on a rescue as I was looking to switch back to predatory fish. He was in a 55 with several large oscars and a pair of jack dempseys. I picked up the grey/silver guy a few days later because he was already pellet trained and I was looking for something to help teach the first guy. I never got a straight answer whether these were gator or Florida but I was told they would be fine growing out in my 120 until I can build a stand and whatnot for my 340. Right now the dark guy is 13-14" and the silver one is around 12". I have them housed with a 9-10" Lima shovel nose.

Tldr; rescued local gar and have no idea what either are species-wise. Help would be appreciated. Thanks much in advance.

The darker green gar came to me with slight fin carnage matching the oscars he was with, but it's healed nicely over the last 3 weeks.only small bits of it are still visible.

I am also interested in the catfish situation. I just brought home my first fl gar. I have him in my 120 with 3 synodontis. They range from 5-8 inches. I read that the gar will hate their nighttime antics. My gar seems like he is warming up to my ocillifer.
