I've tried silversides,shrimp,tilapia, and goldfish,any other recommendations?

Try floaing foods like hikari carni sticks. They tend to hang out on the top and when they get hungry they might taste it. I had a gar that had to put its teeth in everything and everyone in the tank atleast once.

Is there a brand you recommend ??
He wants to eat them but as soon as they hit the bottom he won't even budge??

Do you let the food sit there after. I know It's not recommended but sometimes I have to drop food in and turn off the light and leave him alone for a hour so he can "hunt"

Only tankmate is a 6" red wolf

I left the food over night to see if he would actually take it,still there the wolf belly was big so he ate some,gar nothing,
I've had him for a good week now I raised him but had a friend care for it for a mnth when he was 6"
He's now 8 maybe 9"
I dnt get it he takes the bloodworms from the bottom,maybe he can't see the white meat in the white sand lol??

mix bloodworms with pellets... or peices of fish... it's the bloodworm scent i'de bet on being the issue. Or try either frozen or freeze dried krill... something as stinky as bloodworms.
