Im not saying it is normal or not, I'm simply saying I have seen that behavior from him.

He is usually in his cave now.

Sorry I wasn't referring to your post I was commenting towards the guy that said it was normal to swim vertical as his Jurunese swims vertical. If yours is in the cave it will be fine and as time goes it will get comfortable and start to cruise all over the tank. They do prefer darker waters but my older one came to the top to grab smelts out of my hand any time of day.

You may be right about the majority of cases of vertical swimming but absolute sweeping statements especially about behaviour are almost never correct. Even the example you gave says "maybe". Obviously it means it also may not be. In one instance, rheophilic fish, such as Brachyplatystoma, love to swim in the current and face the current. Sometimes the current they find the best for them is from top to bottom.

The base of his dorsal fin looks kind of red, and the smaller fin on his back looks red as well.

I have dosed his tank with melafix and pimafix, and salt as well.

The fish looks quite a bit beyond thin. Safe to say emaciated. Why is the tummy so concave? You said he started eating well... ? Are those feeder fish? Again, I thought he started eating prepped foods just fine... ? If he is indeed eating dead foods well, I'd take out the goldfish you used to cycle the tank.

I don't see any red that'd be alarming... but the pics are, perhaps, not the greatest to spot that. So, I am not sure why medicate.

WCs are good as often as possible - this fish needs all the help it can get. As for meds, if you choose to continue, I'd follow the instructions but again, perhaps you can get better pics or zoom in on problem areas you are talking about.

I was thinking the same thing as thebiggerthebetter. He looks really thin. I would take him off of the prepped shrimp and get him on worms. Or double your feedings. Feed twice or maybe even three times a day till he gets his weight up to were its supposed to be.

The goldfish were just used to cycle the tank. I havent removed them as they seemed to be irrelevant and dont bother anyone. He does not eat them.

I will pull him from the tank and post photos directly of the spots I see issues with.

X10. That's more important ATM. The red spots your seeing could possibly be from him being so thin.
