So some quick background: I got this fish from my uncle and he is in my 40G tank (he was in a similar sized tank and is either four or five years old).

He looks like some kind of Common Pleco but I was confused about his small size, he is only a few inches long. I've recently read that a few different kinds of Plecos are commonly labeled common pleco, but a few of the "common plecos" aren't the common plecos we love that get 1-2 feet long.

This first picture is from a few feet away, more to see him from far away compared to other things in the tank.

This next is a close up of his body.

Lastly, a close up of his head/face

I tired to get another one of the front of the face but it ran away.

I'm thinking it might be a female bushy nose, but have no idea.

thanks

edit: finally figured out how to directly show pic and not have to link lol

how old was he when you got to 6 inches? From that picture and seeing him in real life I would guess he is 4 1/2 maybe 5 inches and that might be an over estimate.

X 2 on common pleco. I've noticed some grow much faster than others for some reason. I've had one that has been 8 inches for about 2 years now. Eats like a pig but doesn't grow?

I have one that looks the same. I've been told it's a common pleco with a nice pattern. Though I do think it looks a lot like a sailfin. Rescued this guy from a 7g.

Yeah, he looks bigger than mine, how big is he?

And I'm not sure how slow Common's can grow but I'm still struggling to believe that mine could be a true common and be that tiny and that old.

You don't think mine looks like that? I'm not that great with Plecs, but they look pretty similar to me?? Could be wrong though. Again just don't know why he would be so little.
