Lol well in that case you've got a real nice looking rtc there!
I want one of these so much, I would happily swap all my fish, tanks and car for a setup that could handle an rtc

Hate to inform everyone, but the cat died. Seeing as how all the other tank mates are doing well, I can only imagine it was a combination of my mother in law turning the heat in the house up to 90 degrees while we were out and increasing tank temp, no air stone, and the moderate gill curl he had.

Sorry to hear. Are you still sure those were air bubbles? It's uncanny how it looks like ich. That would explain the death too. How is the water stirred in the tank, just with the filter output? It usually takes a very long time, like 1-2 days, for the house temp and tank temp to equalize/reach an equiibrium state (for larger tanks; the larger the tank, the longer it takes).
LFSs on the east coast USA usually tag them at ~$20 +- $5.

I got myself some juvenile one as well. But of course it's much cheaper here in singapore. Usually cost around a few singapore dollars for a 4 incher.

The tank temp was 92 degrees when I found him. The heater is set at 78 in the tank. The tank is next to a window, but the blinds are always closed, and the house temp is always 73. The mother in law decided to turn up the house temp, and open the blinds. So direct New Mexico sun, plus high house temp brought the temp up fairly quick.
I'm positive that it wasn't ick, cause I have some pictures afterwards that show him disease free. Also, I know it doesn't mean much, but neither of my two oscars or my two plecos have ick yet.
Here is a ick free pic of him. You can see the gill curl also in this pic. The white dot on him, isn't actually on him. It was sediment that was stirred up when he scared the pleco out of the cave.
I plan to ask my LFS is she plans to get more, or if she could possibly order another. I have already gotten the go ahead to build an indoor pond in our sunroom in the house we are purchasing.

I would build the pond first so as soon as you get a new one he has a big space to swim in
The extra volume will help with water quality and and temp buffering
Your new rtc would have a lot more chance of survival

that's a real bummer he died...as a side note, I special ordered mine 3 years ago. Took months to come in, literally, months. When he did come in, was a "cute" 2 inches at $45!!! Our lfs doesn't normally carry them anymore as they are steering away from the larger fish they said, not in demand anymore as people tend not to go bigger than a 125g. But, I guess it really does depend upon the location for how much you pay for the fish. I would order my fish from Snookn21, here on MFK and on Aquabid, but only when I need a bunch of fish as shipping can add up. Otherwise, I go on CL after visiting the lfs and re-evaluating whether that one fish I think I want is really worth that $$...but, with the rtc in my case, I was stuck...not available really in my area.
Hope you find another one at that crazy price, when you're ready and have many tanks for his fast growing needed for upgrading. I've NEVER seen a faster grower!!!! Only stayed in each of my tanks for no more than 3-4 months before got booted. Been living happily in the 265g now...but gonna get booted from that too...My current monsters...28" Achara catfish, 24" RTC ....
My growing monsters... achara x tsn hybrid, flowerhorn, giraffe catfish, motoro stingray, albino polypterus/bichir...
amongst soooo many other fishies, too many tanks yet not enough

Looks like we are going to wait till we move into our house around April. That way I'm not rushing to build a pond, and trying to work around my flying schedule. I've already talked to the LFS owner, and she said shed have no problems ordering me one, with how often my wife and I are in the store.
