Yes you should be able, to get him to eat raw shrimp.

When given a choice, mine would always prefer fleshy foods - fish whole and pieces, shrimp (raw, shell-on is the best IMO), krill, other sea and aquatic foods. When no choice, they would take pellets after some fasting; not necessarily even expensive but medium priced (~$40 for a 50 lb bag). Garlic does work well too.

It should not - your 15" TSN should swallow them whole no problem. They need roughage just as you need fiber for a healthy intestinal movement. Plus a bit of minerals, colorants, and vitamins comes with the shell-on, raw.

The whole thing. It's the best for them. Moreover, when my wife cooks shrimp, all my cats delight in having the tails.

Even head-on shrimp (very sharp and spiny) is fine for them. They eat crustaceans in the wild - spiny, spiky, prickly... shell and all... as well as spiny fishes. Their stomachs are heavily lined and can handle that. Their stomach juices are potent and will soften the spines quickly and dissolve tough shells. If a super duper shell/bone comes along, the juices will strip it and the rest can sometimes be regurgitated.

No no seasoning, salt, dressing, sauces, oil, etc. but as I said, it does not have to eat better than you. I go out catch the staple foods for my fish, chop them up, freeze them to kill parasites, then feed them. Mostly fish. On occassion large insects, lizards, frogs, crustaceans, small snakes.

My gar love walleye, pike, bass ect that we catch.. instead of throwing out the "bad stuff" it gets chopped up ,frozen and tossed to the gar. I imagine in FL you have a wider array of other options. new use for invasive species?!?

My TSN is extreamely fussy eater as well... just be persistant and patient... my guy seems to have "outgrown" his finickyness and takes anything but pellets. If he likes frozen bloodworms they are extreamely stinky and i've used them defrosted and mixed with pellets until softened to entice many species of fish into takeing pellets, might be worth a shot... didn't work for my guy but he almost starved himself to death then eat anythign but live at one point... the garlic idea also works sometimes, but i just buy fresh cloves from the market and mash them up and "rub" it on the food.. don't put them threw a grinder or anything but actually mash them, and use it like your seasoning a steak on whatever you want your fish to take. a little does go a long way though. =)

Sweet hes finally eating shrimp. My wife picked up 6 shrimp tonight and he wolfed them down!!! Next i want to try live crayfish.
