Eheim or Fluval

Setting up a new 150 trying to decide on a Eheim or a Fluval? Going to keep Mbuna Cichlids, The eheim is within my budget but not sure if the extra$$ is worth it?

Everyone is bound to have their preferences for sure as everyone's experience is different.

I have had Aquaclear, Fluval & Filstar filters before, but for me, my Eheim wins hands down. I'm running an Eheim Pro 3e 2078 on my 75 gallon goldfish tank. In fact, I just took a pic last night during water change to show how far the stream reaches lol (halfway point of the tank)

personally on a tank that size I would go with two smaller filters over one large filter. Just for redundancy. A couple 2217 would work out well. I used to run a couple rena XP3s on this sized tank. Pretty happy with their preformance.

I guess my main considerations are:

1. Are they truely built better?
2. Are any of the pro series as good as the Classic?
3. Are the Classic's truely as good as people claim on these forums?
I have read about issues with there service?

If you consider Eheim, do not go with an 'e' model (electronic) UNLESS it comes with the Proprietary USB connector and you plan on using the electronic features available on it.
If I had a filter do-over, I would have went with a classic.

In addition, their customer support is nearly impossible to contact. When the board died on my filter in 13 months from the date of purchase, the only option to me was to send them a message from their web page where 98% of the links are broken & lead no-where, and after several weeks of no response, I was able to get their contact information through a supplier with inside info.

So, it took about 6 weeks from first trying to contact them about the problem until they shipped me a replacement board that I had to fix myself - I still have to ship them back the failed board, but the cost of shipping right now is just not in my budget, so that's going to have to wait lol

Thankfully my filter ran without the board working, just at a reduced rate of flow which meant more water changes to keep parameters at what they usually were with the filter working properly.

Yeah it's a matter of which is worse waiting like you did, or having a twelve year only tell you the warranty only covers the motor as the filter is making a lake in your livingroom?

Go with a 2260 and a 2217. I would want more than two 2217's simply because I would want more water movement without needed to add circ pumps or power heads.
