Live sand from saltwater setup for freshwater?
I picked up a saltwater setup that I am converting to freshwater. Can I use the live sand from the saltwater setup for my freshwater setup without serious issues?
Thanks for the advice.

It could have different organisms in it and it depends on what the sand is made of. So 2 possible issues. The first only requires a disinfectant (bleach + water rinse, then thorough rinse clean.) The second depends on what is actually is and what will be in the FW tank.

Take a read here, too. It seems like it's been done, but it has some points to consider.

Just as a thought, what happens when all the organisms in the live sand die off in the fw?

Thanks for the input. My concern is that I'd be killing the freshwater fish with it - not that it would be beneficial.
Thanks.
