Cleaning Ocean Clear Canister Filters -help
I need help cleaning an ocean clear canister I believe it's the back wash type but there is a lot of filters here too? I need to know do I unplug it first? Then connect a hose to the drain? The intake and out take valves should be turned off I would imagine? I Really don't know and need some step by step instructions
do I need to do anything with the pressure?
I have the red sea manual but it does not really help
this is out of my comfort zone for sure but can't find a aquarium person to help. thanks

Basic instructions from the manual. These will vary slightly depending on the model filter you have but it will be the 1st step in opening the filter after you have unplugged/disconnected the water pump. Do you have a ball valve to shut off the water flow to the pump and after the filter, if so, make sure they are closed before opening the filter.
9. To clean and/or replace filter media
Shut off the water flow to the Filter.
Lower the water level inside the filter by removing the safety cap and opening
the Drain Valve located at the base of the Filter Body.
A garden hose with a 3/4"connector can be attached to the outlet of the Drain
Valve.
Open the Filter by removing the gray Thread Ring and Filter Lid and remove
the filter material to be cleaned and/or replaced and treat the filter media as
instructed below.
Reassemble the filter making sure to wipe the O-ring with a clean cloth before
replacing the Filter Lid and restart as described above.Dee
