Moving to a new apartment in a few months and I plan to set up a new tank along with all my current ones and I think its time to try my hand at salt, so what are the basics ? is it just nitrites, nitrates, ammonia, ph and now salt ? Or is there much more to it ?

all depends on what you plan to keep, if you are just looking at doing fish then you need far less then if you plan on keeping corals and other stuff like clams

Your livestock plans have a huge impact on what lighting, filtration, and other equipment will be recommended to you.

As others have said alot will depend on stock. Fish only is the easiest to adapt to as it basically adds salt to the equation and you keep up with salinity.

Corals are tougher and require more attention. Not nearly as forgiving
