Can you suggest a good fixture that isn't too expensive?I'll knock out 2 q's from 2 threads here for ya -
T5+T8 standard fixtures have the wrong reflector and can't handle the higher wattage needed for a reef for very long - you'll be blowin' bulbs left and right.
T-5 better bulb - T-8's lose a lot of intensity in the first few weeks of use, T-5 remains constant for 6 to 12 months depending on the hourly daily use (8hrs a day bulb life longer than 16)
200 to 250 watt T5HO will do all softies and most LPS you'll need more for Lettuce, brains, plates, large exotic aussie tooth's and sps to name a few.
I just ordered a 4 bulb aquaticlife with lunar LEDs with the timer.Don't skimp on lighting for a reef you'll be sorely disappointed - I'm with cichlid king - Aquatic Life T5HO w/ built in timer
