Storing an empty tank outside

Would there be any issues storing an empty tank outside with the top covered? I live in Chicago so right now our temp ranges from the 20s through the 40s but wouldn't be suprised if we got a few single digit days.

Would keeping the tank outside make the seals hard and brittle?

yeah, i'de def test a tank thats been threw those numbers.. that being said.. I left a 55 out when we use to live in IL over-winter once.. and got lucky.. But i would def test the seals.. worst case is you'll need to re-seal it (10$ job at most and some elbow grease. )

I've left tanks outside all winter in temperatures bellow freezing with no problem. Just make sure no water sits in the aquarium.
