What kind of gar is this? It's listed as SA spotted gar @ LFS. He is about 3 inches long. uploadfromtaptalk1365971594400.jpguploadfromtaptalk1365971606688.jpguploadfromtaptalk1365971594400.jpg

it's a member of the characin family. Not a true "gar." It's a "marbled gar."

"Needle nose gar" They are a brackish fish. It is an example of convergant evolution, two unrelated fish have evolved the same adaptations.

Not sure if its the same species but I used to see saltwater fish like this in the mediterranean sea

I don't think so. Needle nose don't have the horzontal thick line. The gar in the pic also has a thicker beak.

Looks like a baby FLG to me. I don't see an adipose fin and the beak is wrong.

Moved to gars.
Needs clearer pics to tell. They are called South american gars! lol

Baby Florida gar, Ive had and seen plenty of these guys at this size. That line that you see will eventually split into smaller patterns and cover the entire body not just the side. They are great fish, enjoy!
