Any way I can destroy it, get rid of it? Do I have to remove it from the tank or will it go away on its own?

It looks like some kind of fungus. Either way It doesn't seem to have spread or afffected the fish in any way

nah j/k. its just a type of fungus that grows on new woods. fish eats it. if not it will go away on its own. or if it bugs u. u can scrub it off and it wont come back. no worries. its very common on new woods.

Oh okay, I don't mind how it looks as long as it won't hurt my fish

It's just cause its a new piece of driftwood nothing to worry about. If you have a Pleco put it in there it will eat the fuzz and speed up process

It is very common on new pieces of Mopani wood. It will go away. If it bothers you take out the wood and rinse it off. It's harmless.

I have had this on all of my new drift wood. I agree with everyone else, it will go away on its own. It has never had adverse effects on my fish.
