How do you prefer to buy your fish?

So many variables for this question. I equally do both really. But certain fish need to be grown out for the fun of it.

For me it normally goes like this, slow growers I buy at like half size quick growers as small as possible.

Generally speaking this^

Another factor is price and hardiness. For example, if I was to get into clown loaches again, I'd buy in the 2-3" range. Once they hit that size they become hardy and are not too expensive. Big CL's are $$$$$, tiny ones are cheap but very delicate.

For something like a TSN, RTC, etc....buy as a baby all day long. They'll be 12" long before the year is over anyway.

I try to buy my fish from 1-3 inches if its a new tank. But if it's an already established tank ill buy fish the same size as the ones already in it or ill go bigger/smaller than whats in it if theres a difference in aggression
