I have a 6x2x2 at the moment and want to add a U.V steriliser to my sump, I have an aquamedic oceanrunner 3500 lph pump that I plan to use with the u.v. I'm looking at the aquamedic sterilisers, they have one rated for a 500-1000 litre aquarium which is 18watts and the next one up is rated at 1000-1500 litres which is 36watts.
Obviously with my tank being 566litres I would go for the 18watts but I'm planning on upgrading to a 6x3x3 in the future, my question is, does anyone see a reason why I shouldn't go for the larger one to go one my 6x2 for a few years until I upgrade ?

Many thanks.

for maximum effectiveness, match the flow rate of your pump with a UV sterilizer with a similar recommended flow rate. Check the specifications of the different UV sterilizers.
