Land of the flea and home of the whopper.
I've been wondering about this... I have been more involved in the reptile community lately and there seems to be a large drive to captive breed reptiles and amphibians to take the pressure off the wild populations. But, a lot of fish are still wild caught, and some of them, like Plecos and Datnoides, seem to declining fast in the wild, and yet the demand keeps increasing. What do you guys think?

My thoughts are that so long as the collection doesn't pose a threat to wild populations it's ok. But once you start causing issues by removing to many individuals then its not so good and should be stopped, in today's world that's unlikely

Agreed with above. If it doesn't impact wild populations, go for it. If its detrimental to their populations, either limit it quite a bit or don't take any at all. Wilds should also always be worth more in the retail store so that people are more interested in taking something captive bred instead.
