Came home from work today and my wife told me that she heard a loud sound in the garage. She said she checked my tanks and didn't notice anything unusual about the fishes. So upon closer inspection I knew that my aro jumped when I saw this:

..notice how he was able to push the whole 6.5' x 3' frame along with the cover:

..and it is supposed to be flushed along the top of the tank like this:

I thought I had the cover secured pretty good but I was wrong. I'm going to reinforce it some more on my day off. I have a plexiglass portion in the middle of the cover for the lights and my aro is not very skittish so I think the reason he jumped was he saw a 3" grasshopper chillin' on the wall. I caught the hopper and fed it to him, he's pretty happy after that. So I told him next time you see something like that, don't hurt yourself by jumping. Just wait for daddy and I'll catch it for you lol. Just thought I'd share.

my aro broke a 1/4" glass canopy with latches on the top of the tank to hold the glass in place.. he have broke 2 pcs of the glass already.. when i finish setting up my new 300gal i'll make my top glass canopies in tempered glass which are equivalent to 1/2" thick glass from glass company..

Personally, I'm thinking of making some sort of 'membrane' cover, this will allow the fish to do what it likes - jump, and not hurt itself. Now I just need to find something translucent and pliable, like a big balloon.
