So ive been doing alot of reading and getting all kinds of mixed stuff. So a few questions do i need some kind of special salt in the water? Is their any other special requirements besides high ph? Whats the best way to keep the ph balanced? Feel free to give any more info.

There is no need to add aquarium salt. Only time I use aquarium salt is when fish are newly added and they are stressed. Salt helps with gill functions.

I do use Epsom salt though once a month during water change. Epsom salt is a natural laxative. Mbuna/Malawi cichlids are prone to bloat. By adding 1 tbsp per 10 gallon, flushes their system for possible blockage.

PH --- You can buy PH buffers to get the desired PH. Likewise there are some sand that also helps maintain your PH --- sand used for saltwater tanks.
