bought a used fluval 406 for $70, what's the best way to load it for bio filter?

bought a used fluval 406 for $70, what's the best way to load it for bio filter?

I'm going to use this and an ac110 on my 120 gal, load double sponges in the ac110, what should I load the fluval with?

so the stock sponges on one side and alternate rings and scrubbies?

What type of rings you guys use, should I spring for the eheim pro stuff of is that overkill?

I want to order some media, thinking about pond matrix, is that good?

How much do I need?
Can I load up all the baskets or keep the sponges in The bottom ones? Etc...

I'm confused
