Is your tank close to a window or are you using a reptile/amphibian light?
What are your water parameters?

Green water usually comes from an excess of light, especially uv light, and/or nutrients, excessive nitrates.

Try reducing the sunlight from the window onto your tank, I would also recommend leaving the light off on the tank for a week, and do some water changes during that time to remove the current algae growth.

What kind of substrate are you using? Some have phosphates added to them for plant growth, and if you have some of that in your tank without plants, the algae will take up the nutrients.

Is your tap that acidic, or do you have something lowering the pH?

Do you have any live plants in the tank at present?

What is your current lighting period like on this tank?

What stock do you have in this tank right now? And would you consider adding something floating plants or pathos to your tank?

Oh and when you say you have stock lights, what tubes are in them? Do you know the Kelvin level of them?

No live plants that I put in the tank.
The light is on a timer that runs from 8am til 930pm
In the tank at the moment I have 4 cichla and a sun cat. I would consider adding floating pants if it would help.
I am not sure of the type of tubes in the lights.
