Okay so I'm about to move into my own place and I'm thinking about upgrading from a 180 to a 300 (8' x 2.5' x 2'). Currently my 5x datnoids are 8-10". Tankmates will be (hopefully) a FATF (12" max), 3x red tail payara (10" max), and an arowana, Assuming tank is overfiltered, could I fit some more dats in there or am I fully stock?

Yes...I have the same 300 footprint your looking at and at 1 time would of been ripped for overstock. I had 3 big aros, 7 or 8 dats ranging from 10 to 20inch, a big tig and more. But if your willing to do more frequent WC's, much can be done. You just need to figure out how much maintenance your willing to do. Your biggest worries will be dat aggression and making sure each dat gets adequate food

Long term 2.5 wide is to small

The 8ft and 2.5 deep are good

So you think a 30" deep tank is too small for a fish that could MAYBE grow to 24"? Largest Indo I've ever seen was 22". I agree that bigger is always better but I disagree that it's a necessity for an indo tiger.

30" tall is fine but 30" back to front is to small

I had my st in a 84x30x30 and it looked cramped at 20"

I think your good man. 8 x 2.5 inches is fine for the all those fish. Assuming that you really do have the tank over filtered and maintain good water. Datnoids grow really slow, I don't want to seem like a downer but If your tank starts looking crowded sell some fish.

This is the problem people just think min tank size no what's right

Tigers don't flex well like say a aro

A 20" tiger trying to turn in a 30" wide tank is to tight

If the tiger sits in the middle of 30" wide it only gives it 5" front and back

To small
