I created my own wet/dry filter, i was just wondering if beneficial bacteria on the ceramic rings die when the power goes off? note that the ceramic rings are not submerged.

Yes, if you lost power for 40 mins or more from my own experience. Btw, ceramic rings work better when submersed. It may work ONLY when submersed

Yea, when you have regular ceramic media, it has to stay submerged. It dries out very quickly when not in contact with water. I recently switched to marine pure ceramic media because it holds water a lot better than regular ceramic media.
