Hey guys. This is my buddys fish.. hes not sure what it is and neither do it. I know its some sort of vieja. What kind? Thanks guys

yeah shape and bar looks like it can be but really need the fish's true colors and patterns for proper IDing on this one beause it an be a fenestratus too

Young hartwegi and zonatus / 'Coatzacoalcos' look like that too. As was mentioned, it needs to mature and once it starts taking on adult coloration and patterning, it will be much more apparent what species it is.

It looks like a Lago Catemacho fene to me before it starts to peel. Maybe its just my monitor or the tank lighting, but it looks like some white/orange starting to show through on the head.

Looks like a zonatus to me, I had one that looked just like that. Some get really beautiful and some just keep that one black stripe.
