Is it possible for a 19" spotted gar to eat a 4.5" datnoid?

I cannot seem to find my 4.5" datnoids. I was wondering if it got eaten by the spotted gar. I don't see how it's possible for a gar to swallow it since they have beak like mouth.

I'm sure that they could. They would probably have to rip it up rather than swallow it whole.

Possible but seems unlikely due to the dats' shape. And as Strollo implies, it would probably make a huge mess. No evidence of murder in the tank?

there is no evidence of murder in the tank. The only other fish that can eat my dat is my 10"bass. I'll check again tonight. It seems kind of odd my dat is missing.

I would bet on the gar, they do included sunfish in their diet.

I'm sure the bass did it.

Gars don't "tear up" their food - and I doubt he did it due to the shape of the Dats.

But - you definitely would see a fat belly on either fish. OR it jumped.

Or it is possible that the gar ate him as well.
