Took a couple of quick screen shots from round of filming we did in the Keys. Just wanted to share with you guys.
Most of us are familiar with the speed a benthic shark strikes with while going after food items. This gives you a better look at the mechanics behind it. Nurse sharks strikes take a few milliseconds. They have the power to suck conch right out of their shells. The expansion of the oral sinus and jaws creates a powerful vacuum. The middle frame gives you an idea of how far out that suction can pull in food items. The third frame shows air bubbles being evacuated from the mouth and gill slits while the shark holds the food item in his mouth.
